In November 1986, the ILO accorded an observer status to PEC. As such PEC is invited to meetings and conferences of the ILO.

PEC networks with the International Labour Organisation especially with the Regional Office for Africa that is supportive of many activities and projects of the Confederation. 

PEC works closely with the Bureau for Employers' Activities of the ILO since the Bureau supports the activities of national employers' organisations with a view to strengthening their capability and organisational effectiveness. PEC participates in meetings organised by ACT/EMP especially to discuss pertinent issues to Africa. The most recent example is the meeting on Economic Partnership agreement held in Dakar from 28-30 November 2007.

PEC has a privileged relationship with the International Organisation of Employers which is the voice of business in the world. THE IOE provides support to the activities of PEC, consults PEC on issues related to Africa and provides administrative and technical assistance to PEC.
