The Pan-African Employers' Confederation (PEC) was founded on 12 October 1986 at a Consultative Council meeting of African Employers' Organisation held in Cairo (Egypt). PEC is the recognised voice of employers and the private sector on the African continent and internationally. Its mission is to contribute to the economic and social development of Africa through the promotion of enterprise, investment and employment.

PEC has an observer status at the African Union and the ILO. PEC has a joint delcaration with the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (UNICE) to work together on a number of common issues. As the offical voice of African Employers and of the Private Sector, PEC is committed to working together within the framework of the Declaration of the EU/Africa Summit held in Cairo in april 2000. PEC also benefits from the support of the International Organisation of Employers in all its activities.

To contribute to the economic and social development of Africa through the promotion of the enterprise.
